Going to California

A lesson in working with what you have, this California mountain home was reimagined by embracing its existing architecture rather than fighting against it. Original Saltillo tile floors, exposed wood beams and earthy materials became the jumping-off point for a design that plays with contrast, unexpected combinations and a little irreverence. We completely renovated the kitchen, updated bathrooms and finishes, and layered in sculptural furnishings, bold patterns, natural textures and collected pieces throughout. Our concept of “ancient future” brings together raw, organic materials with modern silhouettes and playful details, creating a home that feels both grounded in its surroundings and entirely unexpected. The result is a deeply personal family retreat that proves a successful renovation doesn't always mean starting from scratch.
