Vintage plates and succulents for a desert tablescape

Ten years ago I planned a tiny wedding in Joshua Tree CA while living in Brooklyn NY. My concept boards specified how the tables, chairs and place settings should look; @sacredsandsjoshuatree literally made exactly what I asked for right down to sourcing the actual vintage plates I referenced. I was super inspired by the weddings of @lenacorwin and @heatherpalmeri and the work of @light_witch (I literally didn’t want to have the wedding if she couldn’t take the pics🤷🏼‍♀️) all images shown here are 📸@light_witch 🙌🏻🌵🌞...also it was 116 degrees that day🥵 ... .

A miniature treehouse refreshed with patterned textiles

Did some minor remodeling over the weekend ... the Treehouse is going to stay at @blissboulder for the summer so it needed a little refresh to complement the shoppe. I created a miniature shell chandelier (they sell an amazing one!) and made new cushions for my @thetinytimberco sofa in recycled denim (stamped with a paisley wood block) following @jessicacloeminis tutorial I made some throw pillows with old sashes from @anthropologie dresses...if only it was so easy to do this IRL!

A tiny workspace in the Topanga Treehouse

Close-up of my miniature Topanga Treehouse featured this week on @dominomag 📸 I’m going to be re-styling this beauty for a window display coming soon to @blissboulder with some extra inspo from @_ramblingmoon ... trying to keep the positivity rolling this week in the wake of devastating current events 💔 .

A toy barn becomes a miniature home

The original idea for converting this barn came from @coreindustries ; he told me I should find a way to include our 3.5 year old son in my quarantine design project. Making the “boy barn” ended up being the most fun of all and Roman (and his “farmer” mouse) are really into their new digs. Little boys love to play with mini homes too💙 sources are tagged; I made the pillows, wood floor, bed, bedding and Tom Petty poster🎸🎮🎯⚽️🛹📺✏️🌿

Soft pink in a miniature living room

I always loved this quote from Diana Vreeland “Pink is the navy blue of India” ... at this point I feel like pink truly has moved beyond a “trend” and consistency sparks joy especially in the home. Note the tiny fashion books I diy’d with some perfect printables from @theshelfielife and real flowers (weeds are incredible plants) on the table💕

Pastel drawers on a tiny timber chest

“Um, Mom this is nice but it’s a little bit too much wood what if we made it like a beautiful rainbow” 🌈😂...can never get away with a neutral palette with my Girl...she’s all about the color...I think we found a good compromise here. This would be a really cute way to transform an unfinished chest into something sweet and fun for a kid’s full size room. You could also try an ombré effect by adding white to your base shade in increments for each drawer. Super gloomy outside today so some kind of rainbow was in order.

Handmade timber floors for a miniature barn

Working on these dollhouses has brought so many amazing new people and ideas into my life during what is otherwise a pretty dark time in the world. Both of our children love to play with them and I wanted to make sure my little man felt included so I’m working on his “Boy Cave” (the Barn) in collaboration with @macymae_official (who’s also got little men of her own). Here you can see my labor of love, “walnut” hardwood floors, demonstrating the beauty that the right flooring creates (IRL or 12th scale)

Bold wallpaper in a miniature playroom

Bold wallpaper is something I’ve always wanted but it’s such a commitment. This little room has me thinking it’s probably worth it...so was staying up way past bedtime to finish it! Special thanks to @thetinytimberco for the bed, rainbow and rug, @macymae_official for the mini dollhouse, nightstands, plant and 💗pillow, @habausa for the little animal figures and I made the little colorful wood blocks and jute plant (amazing bin from @shopjonesandco )💪🏻

Tiny plants from repurposed materials

Plants are a huge part of my styling recipe so of course I need to have miniature versions too! I made these with tiny clippings of plants (real+faux), various repurposed containers (these jute baskets are formed over pieces of hotel shampoo bottles) and a few miniature pots. Next up, learning how to make mini plants hangers🤓🌿...

A vintage serape becomes miniature upholstery

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t fantasize about moving back to Topanga Canyon so I’m channeling that into my miniature work and converting my @hearthandhand_target treehouse into a Topanga Surf Shack. I recently acquired this gorgeous @thetinytimberco sofa and reupholstered it with a vintage @ralphlauren serape skirt...made the plants in the window from tiny cuttings leftover from styling projects and I’m cutting popsicle sticks that will be whitewashed for the floor...taking lots of inspo from @ninafreudenberger ‘s “Surf Shack”🤍and digging deep into my archives to repurpose all bits and bobs. Who wants to move in? 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

A handmade bed and textiles in a miniature room

Ok I’ll admit that I’ve gone down a massive miniature rabbit hole.🐇Last week I built this bed, the bedding (from vintage scarves) and tiny plants!🌿Making these small pretty things has made me feel extremely calm and inspired, two moods I desperately need right now! It’s also really fun to explore more feminine palettes and patterns, ideas that don’t go over too well (in my home) when your husband’s favorite color (and pattern😂) is grey🐺The teeny tiny wall hanging, copper plant and rug are from @thetinytimberco (yay small female owned business!), the bookshelf is @tenderleaftoys and the side table is @minimum_world_miniatures (thanx @oritharpazphotos 👊🏻) .

Four miniature homes ready for new ideas

So excited to be working on 4 home designs at once! The clients are very particular (me and my kids🤦🏼‍♀️) but also open to exploring all kinds of fun things like crazy wallpaper, barn-living and pink couches. I acquired these @hearthandhand_target pieces for a total of $160 over the last year... and yeah I know I’m ridiculous and no one needs so many but clearly I had some wild quarantine plan in the back of my head. It’s also a great design exercise to be able to play with many colors and ideas that would be expensive + risky IRL. Now if only I could charge for this🤔 (I’ve tagged some of the brands I will be incorporating into these remodels)

Vintage landscapes above a simple woven bench

As a person who has worked from home for almost a decade, I can certainly speak to the importance of loving your space. I’ve been refreshing some small areas for spring, adding in new bits of color and rearranging; it’s not only helping my friends @shopjonesandco but it’s giving my mood a much needed boost as well! {paintings shown here are vintage paint-by-number, collected over years, featuring animals that have wandered through my yard these past 2 years🦌}

Wallpaper and timber flooring in a dollhouse renovation

Since all of my projects are on hold I decided to experiment with my daughter’s dollhouse. Turns out it’s super satisfying to wallpaper an entire home and layout a hardwood floor (made of popsicle sticks) in one day. You can’t beat the turnaround and prices for materials plus it’s keeping my Covid anxiety at bay. How are you guys staying creative at home?💗
